why. this is the first instance of mark being designated as the one in charge when a higher-up (fred, in this case) isn't present. but why. they were only trapped in the slipspace fuckeryzone for a few days relative to normal space-time and i don't think anything drastic happens (with these guys) in glasslands? at least according to the wiki it doesn't. why did being integrated into blue team suddenly disrupt team saber's former command structure?

did they plan to kill mark off at the very start of this? was this all a long game to give mark enough of a foothold as an Important Character to make his death have more impact? does troy denning just like him more? how much weight did his personal preferences even play in this? why do the gammas suddenly start bantering when they're in danger and alone with a woman they just met? why do mark and ash seem to switch personalities every other chapter? why is this worse than i remember it being when i first read it a few months ago?

So, i saw some comments in mossbag's video speculating about the kingdom's edge roots being part of White Lady, and I wanted to address that

Going directly to the point, I dont think they are related, the shape is different, the ones at KE are pretty thin and stiff, kind of like a zigzag pattern, unlike WL's roots which are very curvy, flowing like a S

Besides, why would they grow so far from her, but not in a closer distance or even around her? unless you think these are some of her "seeds" that got left here somehow or for some reason

However, there's another group of roots that I think have a larger chance at being her offshoot, ones that are present throughout the Ancient Basin and the palace grounds

the ones around the basin are dry and dead and probably have been for a long time, but once inside the white palace's dream realm, one can see they used to be white (like all flora in there)

I'd say they dried away when White Lady uprooted herself and fled to her gardens at the other side of the kingdom (I could even speculate she shed a previous larger form like that seen godhome, but there's little to no evidence of that, and her nursery silhouette points towards her being relatively tiny at the time, although I can imagine her still being connected to these larger roots, but this is going into headcanon territory)

That said, similarly curved roots are present in greenpath, which are definetively not related to her, which could mean these ancient basin roots are simply common roots; but in my defense greenpath ones arent white while the White Palace ones clearly were

Going back to the Kingdom's Edge roots and grass, they aren't the only plants to be white in game, even outside the White Palace

the in-universe author of fangamer's Wanderer's journal, as you can see here, doesn't even make special notice of the pale fern present in King's Pass and Forgotten Crossroads, treating it merely as the grass that grows in concrete cracks, which it is tbh

the color and mild luminescence probably comes from absorbing envirommental soul, specially since it turns entirely orange during infected crossroads, likely from absorbing the miasma in the air instead (why you don't absorb soul when cutting it? same reason you can't absorb it directly from the air or from the thorned vines: not enough concentration/quantity of the stuff to be absorbed before it dissipates into the ambient)

There's even Deepnest fungus, openly noted to be bioluminescent in the same journal, but not noted to be unusual or rare or unnatural

So yeah, relatively normal plants whose growth got affected by the ashes and/or light/soul of the Pale Wyrm make more sense than the alternative to me

Yes, I love Stanman, Kenman, and Buttman!!! (hehehe what a tragic ship name lol) obviously not as much as Kyman since that's my OTP but I still find them very cute!!

Kenman is one of the most obvious ones on the list. They already have a great dynamic going on! Good examples of their dynamic are:

In the episode “The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs” when Cartman just casually suggests killing that one famous person and Kenny shrugs like, “okay.” as if to say, “I got nothing better to do, sure,” is SO funny to me. They both work really well together in the sense that they're both the more morally grey (apart from Mysterion where it seems Kenny really channels a strong sense of justice. When he's just himself, he's really down for whatever). In that aspect, I think Kenny would be such a ride or die for Cartman. They'd be partners in crime like they were in the episode “DikinBaus Hot Dogs.”

I also LOVE the aspect that Cartman is the only one that's ever remembered Kenny's deaths. (A lot of people speculate that it's because Cartman ate Kenny's ashes but, nah, Cartman knew about Kenny's deaths since before that). I think him knowing about Kenny's immortality would add such a great dynamic for the ship. Kenny could have someone he could talk about it with, someone that knows. And Cartman’s inability to take anything seriously would probably add to them having a lot of inside jokes about it lol. Kenny would feel alone and he'd be able to cope using humor.

I also love the fact that both Kenny and Cartman are the two boys in the show that have crossdressed the most out of all of them, and willingly, too. They have both chosen to play the girl in multiple times such as Cartman playing Bad Irene in the wrestling episode and Kenny being princess Kenny. So I think the two would LOVE getting together and critiquing Drag Race lmaooo they'd eat that shit up.

Buttman is the other ship that seems more obvious for Cartman since they already spend so much time together. There are so many episodes of them interacting. It's mainly Cartman just dunking on Butters and Butters getting back at Cartman like in the “AWESOME-O.”

I think an underrated dynamic to explore is that, from the whole Weiners Out debacle in season 20, it seems that Cartman has to keep Butters in check otherwise Butters is capable to become the new Cartman. This same theme also shows back up in Post Covid where Butters becomes a NFT scam trader. He and Cartman have a lot in common. Butters is also seen constantly dunking on others and backing up Cartman when he's being a dick.

I think Buttman would be so gossipy together lol. I think they'd love to talk about others for hours. They could make a very dangerous duo if they both team up and work together for a scheme but I also like the idea of Butters keeping Cartman somewhat in check since, even though Butters is also unhinged, he is less unhinged than Cartman by a long shot Lolol

Stanman is the one that people would least expect but I still totally love because of their dynamic! I find it very cute!

Cartman cares about Stan. Despite loving quarantine and wanting the pandemic to continue, he ultimately gave the Pangolin to the scientist so they could find a cure for Covid because Stan cried. All Stan had to do was cry and Cartman actually picked Stan over what Cartman himself wanted. He also helped Stan with the cows in “Fun With Veal.”

Cartman has also shown to want to be liked by Stan and to want to hang out with Stan just by himself without the others as shown in the episode where they broke the damn with a boat. Cartman looks up to Stan and sees him as the main character. Cartman was also shown to visit Stan at the farm to vent.

I think Stanman would be the most wholesome Cartman ship out of them all tbh. Just because if they were romantic, I could see it being from Cartman having a genuine crush on Stan and being, like, actually kind to him instead of such a little insufferable shit lmaoo. I think he would genuinely want to be liked by him so he'd be on his best behavior around Stan and Stan could easily stop Cartman from doing something in turn. He'd be able to tame Cartman more easily since Cartman actually cares what Stan thinks of him. I think because of this Cartman would be sweeter if they were dating and would be there for Stan during Stan’s depression. I think hed genuinely try to help Stan at least by giving him company.

Cartman has also been shown to love to write and produce music in multiple episodes like Stan so they could both write music together and I think that could be so sweet and romantic. They could both really bond over it.

MOONVALE HEAVY SPOILERS AND THEORIES

Okay! I have been stuck at home so I thought I would write down my theories here for a change.

Here are some of the things I am most curious about and that I think will lead somewhere. Basically ADHD rambles, enjoy!

1. BRIAN

Everyone is suspecting this guy for a reason. Ash couldn't reach him in episode 1 and Eric said he called him but he had really bad reception and the call cut off in the middle, and who else has terrible reception? Adam. Eric never once faced reception issues in the forest. Only in the cave which I still think is odd, because there was the sound of water, wasn't there? And he did say the cave was flooded?

Anyways, Brian is hidden so far for a dang reason and I suspect he is close to where Adam is.

2. TAROT CARDS.

The meeting might not be between just Adam and MC. There is a whole deck of Tarot cards, people. I bet even Adam had his own tarot card.

The problem is, why on earth did Adam believe MC was coming for him when no one contacted us? No one gave us the card yet? Was there someone else who was supposed to contact us? Did someone tell Adam to come meet MC in Greenside? And did they fail to reach us for some reason? Also Unknown believed we would go into the forest as well, he had gotten the same info as Adam, that we were going to meet him in greenside.

Is the reason they failed to reach us because someone has been messing with our phone? Yeah I didn't forget the dang video that was ruined. Our phone had been compromised from Episode 1, we as fans just adore that cus it reminds us of Jake.

Back to the main point, there are more tarot cards. Is there a meeting in that room that we will find out about next episode?

3. UNKNOWN

As I mentioned before, I think Unknown has his own tarot card. The Magician, I suspect. I did some lil research into Tarot cards so take this with a grain of salt, but I believe that Adam might have been The Fool. Purely because he was always talked about as this spontaneous fun person and he got taken out so early in the game so I believe he might have been more than a little naive.

Also, are we forgetting that Whitmore might have shot Unknown? Did he get shot and ran away and ended up in the motel to recuperate? In room 031, to be precise?

(But tbh, I have the strongest feeling it will turn out to be Charlie. Purely because he was so suspicious of the motel in the conversation with his friend who i believe doesn't have a name yet and then suddenly switched to No, I have to go to my super important job. I bet he is still there and managed to break into the room and scare the heck out of Ash and MC, who had switched from talking on the group to talking privately. But. The music box? Did charlie find a music box that has the same melody as the one we heard being whispered while Adam was being taken?)

Hope that poor baby unknown is okay next episode. And, no. I don't suspect him of being Jake at all. Duskwood characters will not come back as main characters cus it doesn't make sense. If anything, he could even be Brian.

4. Whitmore

Whitmore is the liar, supposedly. We haven't seen his name on the envelope so we can't be 100% sure. He could have found that envelope in the forest and destroyed it cus it meant nothing to him.

I am very confused about this man tbh, probably because his actions didn't make any sense to us and kept changing rapidly.

Why does he have alarms in the forest? Why is he roaming around after midnight? Why did Unknown warn us of him? Did he actually mean to hurt Eric? Perhaps trade him into the game that he is stuck in? Give his tarot to him so he takes his role?

If he wanted to use Eric for whatever reason, why on earth did he throw him away so suddenly? He had probably seen Unknown, right? Did he perhaps know Unknown? The same way Unknown knows of him? Is that why he threw Eric out, because he knew they were probably affliated or that there was something related to the dang game going on? That he had essentially played himself?

Too many theories that are pointing absolutely no where. Excited to see where this man will show up again (probably when Bucket gets his stuff together and decides to check what Eric says and goes to ask him questions?)

5. Adam and Co.

The man of the hour. Or the game, you could say.

I am about 90% sure we are going to go into his apartment next now that his keys have been mentioned and that we will find a tarot card as well as some other clue.

Also, the reception issue. So far the places that have bad reception are the cave and, according to the comments on Maps, Greenside motel.

I suspect Adam did reach his destination after all and there is perhaps a secret room in greenside motel.

The video calls of his are also very vague. The first two video calls, it seems like he is running from someone and he calls us to tell us who he saw, like he is giving us some kind of hint, and then we have the video call where the phone is hidden in a bag or something? What was up with all these holes that the camera barely saw through? And Adam looked like he was trying to show us something or ah, the whistling? He was trying to let us hear the whistling? He didn't try to say a singly word in that video call, and the whistling is the same as the melody at the end of episode 2. It is probably a hint towards the person who took him, isn't it? I doubt it is any of the characters we know right now, though.

Also, I don't think Violet and Adam are a thing, perhaps they have history or a one-sided crush, but Violet is way too calm. It feels like she knows something.

Oh, and what could Charlie help us with? Is it related to his job as a journalist? Or will he become our hacker friend? He doesn't strike me as a hacking type of guy. I feel like MC is gonna handle the hacking on their own this game.

So yeah. That is all for now, my brain is coming up blank.

It’s almost like their whole childhood, they looked out for eachother but Tyler was more the protector, pushing his fears back in order to be able to comfort Taylor and be there for her, whereas now it’s almost like Taylor is pushing her fears back so that she can be there for Tyler when he needs her, he is the one being comforted for once.

Tyler ~ Tyler seems still slightly agitated wich makes sense everything considered, but he DEFINITELY needs this hug thingy (wtva u wanna call it) he’s been through so much and has always felt the need to be the person taking care of everyone else. If this happened earlier in the webcomic, Tyler would 1000% be anoyed, lying as far to the side and away from everyone as he could. He would probably be on the edge and have his back to everyone, ik he’s technically still on the edge now but he’s also not. He’s proper IN the snuggle sesh yk? Idk how else to explain it-😭🤚

Aiden ~ I love EVERYTHING about the way he’s lying. He’s on bens lap, we need more of their cousin bond😤 But he’s also protecting ASHLYN in every possible way. He’s almost suffocating her…he has his head behind hers, one arm lying across her and the other on her lap AND he’s almost acting like a caccoon (idk how to spell that word mb) the way he’s surrounding her. Also THE HAND HES GOT LYING ACROSS ASHLYNS LAP IS ALSO HOLDING TYLER??!?! this is such an adorable detail I havnt seen anyone point out😭 Aiden and Tyler have probably had the hardest time trying to get along out of everyone in the group. They are practically opposites, Aiden constantly makes jokes and laughs as a way to hide his saddness and pain, he acts almost childish, like he’s searching for the childhood he never had…where as Tyler is always serious and stubborn, he hides his pain through anger and pushes it far below, instead focusing on those who need him because he’s to afraid to face his own worries. They all bonded over the trauma they shared being in the phantom world but it’s almost like Tyler & Aiden bonded deeper due to their experiences with death. They both know what it felt like to die, the difference is that Tyler was only worried about Taylor & his mum, thinking of what would happen if he wasn’t there for them, not wanting to leave them like their dad had. Where as Aiden was almost ready to die, he’s always thought about what it would feel like so he kind of just let it happen, however when he then woke up and realised how worried Ashlyn was, all that want for death dissipated because he didn’t want Ashlyn to ever be that afraid again.

Think I went on a random nonsense rant for a while there…my bad…ANYWAY LAST BUT NOT LEASTTTTTT

Ashlyn ~ Ash is in the centre of them all. She’s being surrounded and protected by her friends. Also, she has a thing for people being to close to her but she isn’t even looking uncomfortable. I don’t have a lot to say anymore tbh cos I tired myself out w that mini rant💀 but one last thing I will point out is, SHE HAS HER LEGS OVER AIDENS. IDK I JUST FIND THAT SO ADORABLE. LOOK AT THEM. THEY R EVERYTHING.

Hey, this might be a silly question but… How do you go about writing a full length meta? Like, what’s your process?

I’ve tried to write metas before but they take a lot of time and energy for me to write for some reason. I know what points I usually want to make too, but it can sometimes be difficult to go back and look through the whole series just to find examples that fit my argument if I don’t already have some in mind.

Aah, I don't know if I'll be much help in this because I think I construct metas in the opposite way (I have examples in mind and then the meta is "how these knit together and why") but I'll do my best! And if it makes you feel any better, my metas also take a lot of time and energy—sometimes longer ones can take like 3 weeks of steadily chipping away if not more, or if it is faster, it's because it was a very precise mad rush that leaves me exhausted afterwards in terms of mental energy (worth it, though). I also find I naturally do a lot of tracing, where if I think a thing about a character, I'll ask myself why and usually need at least 3 examples or reasons in-text for me to go "Oh okay that makes sense" and then I go looking for more just to like, make sure I'm still on the right track.

However, if you need help narrowing things down... if you're writing a meta about how the character reacts when in conflict, say an argument or impatience, going back to those specific scenes. For example, Claudia rarely expresses a lot of anger, so when she does (2x03 & 2x08 because of Soren, 5x09 at the trio, occasional impatience with Terry, etc) I can go back and rewatch those scenes to find what I'm looking for, if say I'm writing a meta on "why does Claudia get angry and how" because that can reveal interesting things about her psyche.

You also don't need to have a ton of examples. I think 1-2 would suffice for most people! But it is good to be able to generally refer back to stuff. I find it helpful since a lot of meta writing is, tbh, just identifying and then connecting patterns. A theme or character trait is only a theme or character trait if it's there repeatedly, and being able to give examples as to when it's there is part of the analysis burden of proof.

Some of this is also made easier by having practice in getting familiar with your text of choice. Like, S7's phoenix motif probably wouldn't have jumped out at me if I hadn't gone into season 7 associating dark magic with death for Callum. Then you had Ezran being king of ashes, Rayla being reborn, Aaravos literally being tied to a life-and-death rebirth cycle, and it just kinda fell into place?

A lot of my meta comes from little disparate pieces I've been thinking about independently for a Hot Second and then one day something or some new piece of canon makes it click and I go "oh, that's how it ties together." Like I already really liked S4's focus on restorative justice (Sunfire plotline) / forgiveness (Rayllum) for what it was and I thought it'd end up being relevant — particularly the tribunal plotline as a necessary "next step" in "how do we break the cycle?" holdover from arc 1 — but it was only when S6 had Leola's trial and forgiveness/rehabilitative justice was like the Theme of Season 7 that I was like "oh, that's why S4 did that, respectively" to set that stuff up well in advance.

So I guess:

Build up your pile of rocks about things you think are interesting about your chosen analysis subject. Let them sit, see what could fit together. Tracing your stuff and figuring out Why you think what you think by extension can make it easier to explain why you think what you think. 1-2 examples will usually suffice. Have fun!

I think you're spot on in your take tbh.

Like, I'm not gonna police horny stuff, or even generalize that people only vote for horny reasons. Baldr is pretty appealing in different ways. Design is one of them, but personally I also have interest in how they adapt the Norse myth into it (because Norse mythology go crazy) and because the Ojou-sama haughty personality is hiliarious to me.

But to ignore "she's hot" being a factor would be a bit naive. She's in the same position as Gullveig, only known for a couple months yet having a popularity boom because of aesthetic, interest in their story, and probable meme potential. But also cuz hot.

As you say, FEH has had no shortage of hot or attractive women. Example: How FEH treats the mainline FE game women, what with the odd (or flat out incorrect) body proportions, poses that make no sense, costumes that are impractical, and blatant imbalance of men and women in the banners themselves.

Even removing them from the equation, we have had many female OCs be massively popular for reasons that are... easy to understand, to be nice about it.

To start, there's the fact that, until this current book, the only free OCs we've gotten were women.

Fjorm, besides having a canon crush on the summoner, has also weirdly been hit with the sex appeal beam recently, with Summer and Ice Festival. Personally I think Fjorm was whatever, but became ironically hiliarious because of her crashing Forging Bonds every time, but I would've easily thought Gunnthra, Laevatain and Laegjarn would've had that "sexy OC" position more often, aside from their swimsuit alts.

Ash, Reginn and Ratatoskr fall into the "cute and bumbling" appeal which is a prominent niche. Peony would seem like an odd case of not having many hornybait fans, but then you realize Plumeria and Triandra were also there, and then Freyja hit a massive popularity surge for her story and design, before getting a sexy swimsuit alt as well. Even then, Peony's still cute. Dagr and Nott hit the "muscle mommy" niche. And Loki and Thorr are sexy and have been somewhat omnipresent.

Eir would be the true oddball, because she's very beautiful with a compelling story, but kind of is not given a lot of stuff.

But the real big example is all of book 7. Not only is Seior kind of infamous for both her design and "create a child with me" line, almost all of the cast was a variant of her/related to her in some way. Then looking at the designs for Book 7 in general, and like... yeah.

Now, compare that to the male OCs we have gotten over the years. Alfonse hits some good notes, but he was criticized as pretty boring early on until Book 3 started him on his cutthroat trend. Bruno is very obviously hot, but always had to be written around rather than written for, until he was flat out killed off in Book 6. Plus his clothes bursting apart to show his bod was kind of played for laughs rather than drawn to be outright attractive.

I think Helbindi and Surtr are hot, but I'm very much an outlier. (There could also be an anti dark skin element to them and Bruno but there's not enough evidence for that)

Lif was treated better than the actual star OC of Book 3, but he's not known for sexy fanservice, he's known for cool factor and being a dark future for Alfonse. Freyr is handsome but killed off mid Book 4. Book 5 had Otr and Fafnir, the latter I like, but neither were winning beauty contests. Same for Elm. Then you get Njordr, the only new man in Book 7, with a design that's not to everyone's taste (I happen to like it), a motivation that's badly undercooked, and has not even been made playable.

Eik was really kind of the first outright "here, we made this to appeal to people who like Muscular Men", considering the fangirling FEH was doing in the midpoint channel. Coming after Book 7 which was the most egregious skew towards fanservice-y designs for the women, and it was a bit of a perfect storm. And while interest in him for his design alone happened ever since Book 8's reveal, the above average writing of Book 8 (for FEH standards) helped him surge even more, along with more fourth wall breaking "you're interested in my muscles?" lines from him.

So, contextually, as you say, it's not a fair comparison for Eik and Baldr, because Eik is 1) the first guy who's had fanservice backing and popularity growth fueling it through his Book's story and 2) he had an entire Book to gain fans anyway unlike Baldr and Gullveig.

And definitely, there's major room for a conversation about misogyny regarding how women in media often have to be made attractive and sexy while the men get to be weird creatures and oddly shaped. FEH doesn't really treat many of its women as more than things to sell to horny people, and Eik was the first example of a man doing it, which was so uncommon that he got a lot of fans just for being different.

I wish that wasn't the case, considering the fact that many characters who aren't the typical sexy women have been conistently popular. Look at Veronica and Sharena! Idk why IS still believes that there needs to be curvacious babes in order to sell well when there's evidence that good writing or feel good personalities do just as fine. Women shouldn't just be hit with the "Sexualize Button", I would think that's pretty patronizing and demeaning for irl women and fans of female characters.

it´s 2025 and I have a habit of abandoning a ton of wips after new years so here some wips of my Winx ocs and also concept art for them + random info dump about them

I´ll first show my main winx ocs and then also some more winx fan kid desings

Anyways here´s all the first design (except lumi I made her drawing before I made this she´s still part of most of the line ups with the girls) Tori´s design changed a lot tbh originally she was supposed to be the cute type but I made her into a more of a diva.

I´ve shown Dahlia already but she´s actually the middle of three kids the oldest being Fenix whose name I´m not sure about because when it comes as magix culture in genreral probably wouldn´t be an acceptable thing to name a future king of domino and that´s mainly cuz you´d think that fenix would be mainly assiocated with the dark phoenix and not with the phoenix as in the earth concept of a bird that rises from the ashes wich is the reason I named him that because of the whole domino being revived thing and also blooms really into earth mythlogy so his name still kinda makes sense from that pov. Anyways hes the same age as Chord and hes the crown prince of domino and he´s a wizard and the holder of the dragon flame.

(also nothing past s4 isn´t canon when it comes to my ocs)

Dahlia is a fairy that´s yet to transform she´s also the crown princess of Eraklyon she´s 10 months younger than Astria.

And then there´s Lani who I literally only made to be the sibling that actually looks like their parents since for Dahlia and Fenix I took a lot character traits from their grandparents rather than Bloom and Sky. Wich does make sense since both Bloom and sky don´t really look like their parents that much either since neither don´t really share their hair color or eye colors with their parents except that Bloom has Marions hair color, so it does still make sense that both Fenix and Dahlia don´t have their parents exact hair and eye colors but still I was worried that nobody would recognize them as Blooms and Sky´s kid so I made Lani so that If I made a drawing with the all of three of them people would still know their bloomsky kids. anyways Lani´s the youngest she´s a horse girl and is paticurally fond of her earth grandparents.

I´ve also drawn Astria already a couple of times but honestly her design doesn´t really say anything other than that shes obviously Stellas kid yeah but in reality the fact that shes so similar to her mother is actually big source of insecurity of hers since she feels like she needs to "live up to her mothers image" since Stella is the queen of solaria, a member of the company of light and the guardian fairy of solaria so yeah no pressure but yeah despite her overly positive out look on life that´s what going on deep inside of her. She´s also the fairy of solaria´s sky.

Sol is a bit of a trouble maker and has a kind loud personality in general and Nilan´s kind of a quiet kid he likes reading books yet he can still be kind of jokester and some times gives Sol some of his bad ideas.

Chord´s the oldest out of all the kids. He´s currently in his first year of school at red fountain. personality wise he´s more of a free spirit type and also rather smart. He´s rather close with his father since while River was kind of a douche when he was younger after Nabu´s death he kinda decided to change for the better so these days he´s actually a really nice guy but Musa on the other hand kinda got caught up in helping Riven be a better person to the point that she completly forgot to figure out if she herself needed improving so thanks to that her relationship with Chord is a bit- I mean shes not a bad mother by any means its just that its a little bit complicated.

Iris is older than both of Nilan and Sol and also Flora´s and Helia´s only daughter. I honestly feel like since Miele was so much younger than Flora, Flora might have been adultified in a way that would have made her not want that many kids. So anyways Iris is doesn´t talk that much she has a tendency to just observe instead of talking.

Zale and Gladis are both pretty young still so I don´t have much to say their Aishas kids both of them are really polite and sweet kids their being raised in a lot more relaxed manor compared to the way Aisha was. also Gladises favorite color is green and zale´s pink.

Then there´s Link and Chip. Chip was actually meant to be a boy at the time I drew her but I changed them to be a girl because I feel like Tecna having a daughter would be interesting for her character. Anyways while not insecure about not being girly Chip is a little bit insecure about not looking like her mother since usually when she mentions about being Tecna´s daughter a lot of people look at her weirdly since she and Tecna don´t share that much things in common despite her being her mother. Chip is kind of jealous of Link since he is basically just a male version of his mother but ironically Link doesn´t really like how feminen he looks and is kinda jealous of how androgynous Chip looks.

Cheryl & The Blues

A lovely friend of mine pointed something out to me this morning. Namely, the "why" of the blue dress in Season 1, which had led me to the meaning of blue for Cheryl.

I had asked for his insights previously, as he is a costume designer who is far more visually inclined than I, but it wasn't until now that I got a response. (He has always been a RiverHater, but it seems he is coming around. Our flock grows. Praise Mother Gaia.) In any case, he pointed out that this dress is an attempt from Cheryl to embody Cinderella.

Here is a quick paraphrase of what he said:

She is is desperately trying to NOT be Cheryl during this dinner. At one point she even says "It's supposed to be Cinderella who ran away from the ball." Thus, the blue dress is here to help her emulate the "trad wife heterosexual Cinderella." By the end of the scene, she goes full Cheryl and snaps on Archie because her charade doesn't work and everyone still thinks she's a chaotic lesbian.

Lots to unpack here, no?

As we know, Cheryl IS red. So, seeing her in blue (and this is blue, despite the fact that it looks sort of green. A nod to envy, perhaps?) is very strange. Blue is Betty's color, and though Betty is NOT the ultimate trad wife heterosexual, she is coded that way. In fact, much of her internal character conflict is about her having to grapple with being "The Girl Next Door".

So, this dress is Cheryl's attempt to be "The Girl Next Door". It seems so simple now that I think about it, but still.

I think it's interesting that Cheryl invokes Cinderella specifically, rather than Snow White or Sleeping Beauty. Snow White would certainly make sense. She's tortured by an evil mother figure and pale as snow, both things that Cheryl could relate to. There's even poison in that story and we all know how much Penelope loves poison. Sleeping Beauty wouldn't really make sense until after Cheryl's Sweet Water River incident, but still. I think it's kind of interesting how many fairytale princesses we could link to Cheryl.

She chooses Cinderella though. Why? Well, Cinderella is also tormented by an evil mother figure, but her most significant moment is being transformed. Cinderella is lifted from the ashes of her wretched life to go to the ball with the help of her fairy godmother in the hopes of winning the heart of the prince. The prince is clearly Archie and there is no Fairy Godmother. Maybe that's why it doesn't work.

In any case, Cheryl is a lot, even for herself, so it makes sense that she would try to suppress her true colors, so to speak, from time to time to satisfy a particular goal. She is aware that she is too much, at least to some degree at any given moment of the series, so yeah. She whips out the blue when she's trying to tone herself down.

(I'm probably making too much of this, but there's something about Cheryl Blossom and fairytales that just clicks in my mind. It reminds me of Blanche DuBois from Streetcar saying, "I don't want realism, I want magic!" I feel like Cheryl would agree with that. )

Also! Another time that Cheryl wears blue? Toni's bachelorette party in Season 6. This is another time that you could argue she is trying to suppress herself in the interest of being a supportive ex. (Also fascinating that Heather is wearing red! A testament to her love for Cheryl, I think. This IS right before they have their big kiss.)

She also wears blue when she comes up with the idea to kill Percival for Toni's wedding present. It's a sort of "show of support", but we all know she does not support this union and desperately wants Toni back so....

This is also likely why the Sister of Quiet Mercy uniforms are blue. They are symbols of repression for Cheryl specifically. (And Betty too, tbh. I think this 'suppression' narrative probably works for Betty too, but I would need to actually go through and check that. So, for now, let's just focus on Cher Cher.)

Now, Cheryl wears blue pretty often in season 7, but that makes sense considering the fact that she has to suppress herself quite a bit due to the nature of the times. But like, look at this:

These are all moments where Cheryl is actively suppressing her true feelings, in this case, the gay ones. However, what's different about these instances, and these costumes, is that the truth is always poking through. The suppression in the 50's is different. She's not trying to suppress herself FROM herself. Not in the long run. The red accents remind us who she truly is and that she is still Cheryl Blossom underneath that trad wife, heterosexual nonsense she's putting on.

All this to say: When Cheryl is wearing blue she is actively suppressing herself! It's consistent!

ADDENDUM:

Where does this analysis place her River Vixen uniform?

As you can see, it is predominantly blue. However, I do not think that it fits into the "suppression narrative" in the same way as her other blue outfits. The River Vixen uniform is blue, but it's also a symbol of the Town and of Cheryl's sense of belonging within her community. Though I do think the red versions of her Vixen attire that she wears in season 5 are symbolic of her truly owning her place in the town as the Coach of the Vixens and also the Blossom Heir, I don't think she's actively suppressing herself as a River Vixen.

Gen 4 time. I'll admit, I'm crazy for the dex and lore, not so much the fashion for the base characters- or at least, I thinks others do it better. But I think I'll also slide in Legends Arceus since it's related

I'm starting with Dawn because, like May for gen 3, Dawn is pretty much the face for gen 4, especially because of her repeat anime appearances. I think I do prefer how the anime draws her in the gen 4 era of it, but the difference is basically miniscule other than blue hair and eyes in place of navy.

Dawn I think has earned the unfortunate title of "shortest skirt in the franchise" if we look at how high it goes up to on her legs, the anime somehow going even shorter. That'd be fun on, say, Adult characters like Cynthia, Sonia, Arezu, etc, kinda weird on Dawn though. Unlike some previous gens, it's pretty obvious Dawn is fairly young, around 10 to 14, which imo makes her lose a bit of points on being a blank slate imo, but it's still a pretty neat design. I do like the hat, hair, scarf, socks, and boots. The bag is definitely on the more impractical end, even for fiction, and even the anime kind of agrees since they swapped her to Lucas's backpack at some point. It certainly looks like it can hold more, but also just looks way heavier and not as easy to move around for a mountainous area like Sinnoh. I do dig her little hair clips, though. Idk, it's not that it's a bad design, it just feels a little bland after Crys, May, and Leaf, even back when I was a kid. 7/10. There is concept art for both her and Lucas that makes both look a little better with white accents on the clothes and just generally more realistic proportions- that would bring her up to an 8.

As for her platinum look, I think it's an upgrade. Someone at game freak really LOVES that short skirt look, but on a design stand point, it's rather fashionable. Not really practical for the cold considering the amount of leg showing, but impracticalities in a fictional setting is fine- lord knows Hilda walking through snow in her daisy dukes is a little worse. 8/10 design

Lucas is probably the lesser known of the 3 scarf characters, and I don't think he really knows what he's doing in a fashion sense- but it's fine, I've certainly seen worse. He still kind of reads as a young teen, so he loses that blank slate trait, too. I do like his top and pants with those shoes, and the movies actually give him a more blue and green color that also works. I think the scarf and beret aren't really a good look for him, and in fact Ash basically took the best parts of the outfit and fused it with the best part of FRLG Red's for a better gen 4 fit, imo. Still, remove the hat and scarf, and you're already doing better. 7/10

Other than the scarf, the platinum look is definitely an upgrade all around. The pants fit better, the colors are really nice and fit well together, the jacket is cool af, and overall I just like it more. He kinda gains back some blank slate energy, too, and even looks a little older. 8/10

Now, as characters- I would not claim them as rivals because you don't really battle them, just a couple of 2v2 matches with them. As lab assistants, they're pretty bland and mainly are just for claiming the unused starter. That's about it tbh. So forgettable that this was retroactively added right when I was about to post. 5/10

Now Barry is basically the same in Platinum, just with longer sleeves, so I'll review it as such.

Barry as a design is nice. From the get go you can tell he's a pretty energetic person, but I do wish they wouldn't use orange and green so much in these designs- continuing from Emerald and continuing to BW and BW2 is way too much of it imo. Still, the green scarf is a nice counter to our red/white scarf, and I like the pants and shoes. He certainly looks like a best friend, and his hair helps him stand out among other rivals. The two designs are basically the same, Platinum's being slightly more appropriate for the cold and making more sense to zip up. Still, i prefer the short sleeve look I think. Design wise, DP is 8, Platinum is like... 7

As a rival, I think his personality is a little too hyper for my taste, but I do respect the drive and effort to get stronger. His team is pretty decently built and reflects his tough go getter attitude. In fact, at one point, he had the HIGHEST LEVEL TEAM you could fight in the entire game collection, but Red HGSS dethroned him soon after. Barry might seem as annoying as a little brother, but his skill is no joke. His team is also really unique to him, working with a mix of tough, practical, and not so conventional pokemon such as Rapidash, Roserade, a Munchlax that evolves into Snorlax, Floatzel, Staraptor, Heracross, and one of your starters. It's a pretty strong team that's got a wide range of coverage- maybe except for Rapidash. I enjoy battling him- not putting him down like Blue or Silver, but battling to test our strength is rewarding, with my favorite match probably being at the Canalave bridge. 8/10 rival, effectively serves his purpose.

Okay, this is where I'd normally review the remake designs, but bdsp are so soulless that the redesign outfits are basically the same as dp. You do get more outfits, but most for the guy absolutely suck ass and most are pretty girly imo, or just not what anyone other than a fashion model or member of a hipster polycule from Portland would wear- nothing wrong with that, but I'd like options to dress like me, you know? There's 10 for each gender, and honestly I don't have the time or energy to review each. Collectively, Lucas would get a 4, and Dawn gets a 7. I think it would have been vastly improved if we could mix, match, recolor, and change hair styles, so as a guy i might wear a blue Cyber jacket with Platinum pants and thicker hair. But I will pick two of my favorites from each to review

Again, they keep putting Dawn in these outfits with really short skirts- this one does have spats, though. I think it's a nice design I feel would work better on a character that's older or taller, but she is still rocking it imo. The hair style is really cute, the colors are a nice contrast, and she kind of gives me ace trainer vibes. She pretty much stole any and all rizz that Lucas has in his cyber style outfit. A 9/10 and it gives her a bit more confidence.

The is honestly the only new design for bdsp Lucas that I think I'd wear irl, but even then the pants are too tight and I think I'd just prefer the jacket without the Pikachu logo. They focus way too much on trying to make Lucas "cute" instead of just... giving him outfits normal guys would wear- which there is 1 I think for the winter one, but this one especially is the I'd see my friends wear a lot. Dawn still looks better in the exact same outfit, unfortunately, but that's more of a fault to Lucas not really being as initially well designed. 7/10. I think I'd just wear the Platinum outfit.

Now for Legends Arceus, which I am including because it's just Lucas and Dawn remixed

The art style has definitely evolved by this point to the true modern style, with a bit more complex shading and more refined details- depending on the artist, anyway, which will also affect whether the character will have meat on their bones or be noodles and eyeballs, since Ken Sugimori has more or less taken a step back from the main franchise by this point.

As for granny Akari herself- she bears and lions so baby Dawn can make poffins for her penguin in 200 years. Legends Arceus is one of the few games to actually state an age range for your character, this time is "around" 15, which logically places her anywhere between 14 to 18 depending on your tastes or interpretation of "around," because I went to school with 15 year olds that looked 20 year olds or 40 year old chain smokers. She definitely looks older than Dawn imo, and looks more confident.

The outfit is basically the same as Rei's, but her pants are basically leggings, she has oversized socks, and she has a bandana commonly worn by women at the time when doing outdoor work. I don't really think the shoes look that comfortable, but I don't know enough about how shoemaking worked in the mid 1800s of Japan. I also like how the belt has a bit of an obi thing going on, but idk how useful that could be as a bag given the positioning of it. I do dig the outfit, it's basically a ninja outfit and fits her the best out of any in game option you can give her imo.

That being said, Legends Arceus does severely limit your clothes and also gets rid of most fun and girly outfits to share a wardrobe with Rei- call it nice that the guy can wear girl clothes and vice versa, I call it designed and disguised laziness so they don't have to make more clothes. I guess being fair, you can't really expect too much for the time period, but practicality didn't really stop past gen protagonists, and it was most likely just a time saving measure because of made up deadlines nobody but Game Freak or TPC wanted, and to prevent things like upskirt shots- which imo could be easily fixed by a black void or just skirt filler like with Ruby and Weiss's "combat skirts" in RWBY.

Anyway, that's a rant for another day, especially since you can still make fun combos as a guy. Base Akari is a 9/10, the point being subtracted for the shoes. There was a beta design with something more like a beanie or headband that also looked better.

Lucas- sorry, Rei- doesn't really change too much fot hair or hat style, and this artwork makes him appear a tad younger than intended imo. He has different pants and... leg clasps? Leg wraps? What do you call those? I like em, I just don't know the name. The shoes still don't really match the vibe imo, but the rest is still pretty peak.

This is a rare game where guys have better choices than girls for outfits imo, because usually girls get like 25 different types of shirts, pants, skirts, etc EACH, and guys get like... 5 each, with like 4 colors. This go around, you can get some pretty cozy fits, one of my favorites kinda giving me a black bomber jacket and ninja look. I'd say a 9/10

As characters, they're basically just there. I like their bond with Pikachu, and you can see how difficult it is to get started as a trainer when you have zero idea wtf you're doing and not much to reference. They do get progressively more useless as time goes on, which I can't say I like. In fact, Volo becomes more relevant as time passes, although idk if I'd personally claim him as a rival- even though he'd probably see us as one for Arceus's attention.

But I digress. As side characters, they get a 6 or 7. Could be better, better than being annoying like Hop though.

Gen 5 next. I would do Battle Revolution, but you don't really have an adventure, and the only official art is for the base boy and girl. And boy howdy, James Turner certainly got hired for deviant art tier drawing talent back then. He improved on his humans thankfully. The outfits in that game though are really nice and characters are designed great for the first instance of character customization. 8/10

Do you think mat is gonna quit GTlive soon? I hadn’t considered it but I saw one of your posts saying he was trying to ease out of it and he DID say he would stay until the end of summer.

Who do you think will take his spot? I can’t see ash taking it since she’s good at her job as a producer and co-host. I just hope they pick one consistent (hopefully familiar) face to do it instead of swapping all the time, I like the routine tbh

Hey I get it, I'm with you on the pending doom feeling. Honestly, while I don't think he's leaving super soon, I do think he'll be gone by the end of this year. I'm basing it on stuff him and Steph said on the first GTLive after the big Goodbye Internet post.

Matt and Steph said that GTLive would "continue as a channel, absolutely" and Matt "would be on it, for the foreseeable future". But he acknowledges that he will eventually leave, noting that there will come a time when him and the team feel collectively that "this is the right time". He promised to give advance notice to when that will happen.

All of this is said in "What's NEXT for Theorist and GT Live...|Goodbye Internet Meme Review" (Time stamp: 26:00).

Matt also said Ash will continue to be on GT Live and will serve as the channel's "continuity". They did not define what that means. Its not a promise they will be the host, but its also not denying it. Steph says "there's a lot that goes into planning a transition" but "you don't pull that trigger and you don't make that choice until you know its safe and it's the right choice to make. You don't put new hosts for new channels in a position where they're not ready".

I don't think Steph meant it to sound like they don't trust Ash or think they aren't the right host. I think they're trying to say whoever is the planned host (or hosts) aren't ready yet. That could mean Ash, or that could mean Tom or Lee as they're busy getting used to their hosting responsibilities on the main channels.

So that's all the facts we have. If you want my speculation, I know Tom makes the most sense to take over because he has previous live streaming experience and he did a TON of co-hosting leading up to the Game Theory host change. I've been working on the Game Theory wiki in my spare time, and Tom was on GT Live 30 times between 2022 to when he took over. That's crazy when you put it into a spreadsheet and look at the raw data! But I actually don't think that's what they'll do.

I know you said you didn't like the idea of the host constantly switching, but I do think they want to do that (with Ash as the continuity point running every episode) because it would help grow an audience for Amy and Santi, who have significantly lower views than Lee and Tom. I'm sure that's not a surprise to Team Theorist as those channels were always more "MatPat" heavy, but financially speaking, it makes sense to put Santi and Amy on more channels to hype them up. Cast based Youtube channels are all the rage right now; look at what Watcher and Try Guys did in increasing the number of people on camera. We're probably entering a time in Youtube History where big channels are no longer based on just one personality (a la Markiplier or even Mr. Beast). Its too fiscally risky and causes a lot of burnout.

Ultimately that's why I think Vid Con is the sea change moment for GT Live. I think they will introduce the four as hosts for the GT Live at Vid Con stream, and then continue to test them as a multi host option. I predict Matt will leave by the end of 2024 (end of summer seems kinda crazy at this point since we're in June already. We also know that Matt is always late :D). The fourth quarter (christmas time) is the biggest cash generator for Youtubers so they will probably do something like "Matpat is leaving forever!" to max their views/cash inflow.

That is a very very long answer but I hope it's one that makes sense. I figured a Theorist fan would appreciate a rational answer with real life data points.

Finished the spoke finale.. The foreshadowing is CRAZY WHAT WAS THAT ENDING😭😭. Spoke is gonna become a villain in the series eventually literally no doubt about it at this point. Very happy he got his family back tho :(((, he regained his senses a little bit over the video (despite the crashouts). I’m so excited for season two!! All three protags have changed so much

Also Wifies on Twifies channel posted a bloopers for unstable and the actor aus goes crazy. Ken, Wato, Wifies, and Theo messing around like “THIS is the awkward mafia” and spoke full on crashing out. Odyduo and taxduo joking around this is all I’ve ever wanted. I NEED more bloopers for unstable.

Also the swap au… Spoke creating a mafia and leading one. I don’t know if he would want everyone invis but then again they would slowly piss him off until he wanted them all to not show their face in front of him. Like during the finale Spoke ignored Mapicc just like Ash did a couple times and his whole “Are you lEAVING ME AS WELL?” And Mapicc being forced to stay and fight because he cares.. ouh the toxic bestie. Mapicc would end up as Spoke’s body guard and right hand, slowly dissolving his morals as Spoke is the only person he has. Spoke would not want him to be invis tho, he’d feel too alone I don’t think Spoke would let Mapicc stay away from him for long, the control would be insane. And Minute… OUGH I don’t know if he would stay because his morals are pretty strong.

For Parrot and Wifies, I’m making Wifies Ferre because I think Ferre’s protectiveness and closeness fits him way more than Theo or anyone else. I’m making them BOTH toxic fuck you Parrot. Parrot is a warrior and mercenary that goes off and throws himself into battles and situations for entertainment. Messing with people to see how they react and pushing people to be better so that he can see them suffer, while feeling like he’s doing good. He’s still reckless tho. Which is where Wifies gets a little crazy, he’s often helping Parrot, by his side, or with Kww. But.. if someone gets a little TOO close to Parrot or Parrot gets a bit TOO involved in a situation, Wifies will.. let’s just say take it into his own hands. He also gets Ken and Wato to help him trap Parrot in prisons when he gets too reckless -🦜👁️
